Would you like to have your own midwife to be the one carefully attending you and your baby in labor rather than staff you've never met before? Maybe homebirth is right for you! Karen Gartner is the owner of The Wonders of Birth. She became a homebirth midwife (CPM) and SC Licensed Midwife (LM) in December of 2023 after a very intensive 3.5 year-long midwifery apprenticeship. She has spent more than 25 years studying all things birth, has attended more than 270 births as a doula, midwife student/assistant and midwife and she has a strong desire to help mothers and families feel well-informed and well-supported as they journey through pregnancy, birth and the early postpartum period. Karen believes that her clients have the right to make the decisions they feel are best for them and their families and her goal is to support them in those decisions to the best of her ability. Karen was a NICU nurse for a few years before staying home with her 4 children while they were young. She then became a birth doula and enjoyed supporting families in that capacity for 15 years. She now offers homebirth midwifery services including the option for water birth to SC families within an hour of Shelby, NC.
